Six Ways to Boost Motivation at Work, in the New Year

It’s that time of year again, January is renowned for feeling like the longest month of the year. Paired with all our post-holiday blues, let’s be honest, starting back up again can feel like a challenge.

But it also means it’s the perfect time for a reset and an opportunity to refresh the way we work, to get the head-start and motivation we need for the year ahead.

So, here are six ways to boost motivation at work in the new year:

Mix Up Your Routine

Feeling stuck in the same routine can be a bore and that is the absolute opposite of motivating! A change in pace can reignite your enthusiasm for even the most tedious of day-to-day tasks (...well maybe not quite the most tedious but all of the others!).

Changing up your routine can be as simple as alternating workspaces, trying new work methods or refreshing your weekly calendar. Or maybe it’s your morning routine that could use the change; a morning walk, a quick meditation or simply some time to yourself before the work day begins.

A well-rounded routine can bring fresh perspectives and energy to your professional life, fostering a more balanced and fulfilling overall experience.

Prioritise Work-Life Balance

It is said time and time again, but maintaining a healthy work-life balance really is essential for motivation. Especially in January or if you’re ever feeling in a rut, make sure you’re finding time for yourself.

Seeing friends, time for relaxation, or time for hobbies! As the new year begins, have a look at what you're prioritising and make sure you allocate time for yourself (we know you deserve it)!

Challenge Yourself

Set challenging but realistic goals that push you out of your comfort zone.

Stagnation can lead to decline in motivation. A sense of challenge and accomplishment can be a powerful motivator. Don't be afraid to take on tasks that require growth and development.

Remember, embracing challenges not only fosters personal and professional growth but also builds resilience, enhancing your ability to overcome obstacles and can help you succeed in the long run.

Create a Positive Workspace

Your work environment has a significant impact on your motivation and overall well-being. Take a look at your workspace and make adjustments to create a positive atmosphere.

Personalise your desk with items that inspire you, photos of loved ones (yes this includes your pets), a new plant or some new stationery.

A clean and organised workspace can contribute to a more focused and motivated mindset, making each workday a more enjoyable and productive experience.

Foster a Supportive Network

Surrounding yourself with a supportive network of colleagues, mentors, and friends can significantly impact your motivation and job satisfaction. One of the best motivators is going to work everyday knowing the people around you are not just coworkers but a source of encouragement, motivation and perhaps most crucially, a daily dose of laughter.

A strong support system provides encouragement during challenging times and celebrates your successes during the good, creating a more fulfilling and motivating work environment.

We know it’s hard to get back to it, I can attest to that, I had to come back in January and write the article about motivation! Implementing some motivational strategies can inject new energy into our day-to-day routines. So here's to a motivated and successful year ahead!
