The Road to Sustainable Transport.

There is often a myth that to improve your carbon footprint means to allocate resources that (you think) you don’t have, and spend substantial amounts of money doing so. However, in the simplest form, sustainability is about improving efficiency.

So, in order to save on carbon emissions you almost always end up saving money. Resource utilisation is the number one step towards net zero, it is essential for sustained economic growth.

No matter where you go or who you talk to, there is always some kind of discussion going on about being sustainable or good for the environment, it seems like a never ending conversation.

Sustainable transport is a key issue in the national media, but why is being a sustainable business at the top of everyone's priorities?

Well, in its current state, the UK logistics industry is unsustainable. Despite only doing 5% of UK road miles, lorries generate 21% of the road's NoX gas and 17% of its Co2 emissions. This high environmental impact is a key issue within the majority of supply chains.

What's even more alarming is that 30% of these lorries are empty. Pair that with the UK’s average pallet loading factor of only 62% and we begin to see shocking patterns in relation to resource utilisation within our industry.

Vehicle utilisation is not a priority in most supply chains but it is a driver of both carbon and monetary costs. So why is it not a priority?

Surprisingly, a lot of UK supply chains can’t actually see what their vehicle utilisation is and have little to no data or tools to keep track. This means a lot of businesses have no true overview of their logistics spend and no concept of the money and emissions being wasted.

However, this is slowly changing, as tech based supply chains are emerging to engineer an industry that is more collaborative, responsive, efficient and therefore more sustainable.

Software can be used to pinpoint inefficiencies within a supply chain, for instance; low vehicle fill, poor routing, driver capacity and empty running; while highlighting solutions to establish a more viable operation.

It is the same as applying the ‘no buy’ movement to the logistics industry; employ the resources you have rather than purchasing additional assets.

There is always someone going on about being sustainable and it is a never ending conversation… but that is the way we believe it needs to be, until the supply chains that power this planet are clean enough to sustain it.

Our mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable supply chains and we have engineered the technology to do so. Through this tech, we give businesses the ability to power an efficient and effective supply chain with cost-saving and impartial solutions.
